Size, Shape, And Alignment Of The Structure:
A structural member should be in a proper size, shape, and alignment as specified in the drawing.
It is mostly depend on the good workmanship and proper supervision.
For example, you are going to build a 10″ × 20″ RCC beam. Make sure the inside dimensions of the form of the beam is exactly 10″ × 20″. Also, make sure it is properly supported.
Because, displacement of supports of that beam’s form can cause the unwanted size, shape, and alignment of the beam.
Level Of The Structure:
The level is mostly important for horizontal members like slab and beam.
The level of a horizontal member should be truly horizontal.
For example, you’re going to make a slab which is 10 feet above the ground. So the distance of any point on the slab should be 10 feet from the ground.
You can ensure this by checking the level of the slab formwork with a water-level pipe and tightening the formwork supports properly.
Displacement Of The Structure:
Displacement of a structural member means the member isn’t there where it’s supposed to be.
This type of fault mostly happens due to loose formwork supports.
The quality of the surface of the finished concrete is directly related to the quality of the formwork materials and the workmanship.
If you want a smooth finish of the concrete surface you need to use good quality formwork materials as well as to make water-tight formwork.
Honeycomb In Structures:
If the cement slurry of fresh concrete penetrates through the formwork then the honeycomb can appear on the surface of the structure.
To prevent this, make the concrete formwork water-tight.
Capability To Carry Concrete Load:
The formwork should be rigid enough to withstand against a load of fresh concrete as well as a load of workers and machinery.
Not only that but also the formwork should capable to carry the load of concrete till it gets enough strength to carry its own load.
